I have lived in Severna Park, Maryland since 1986. It is a small, quiet little town that neighbors Annapolis fifteen minutes away… and if you blink, you might just drive right through and miss it completely. It is a town that celebrates family events with pool parties, backyard barbecues, 4th of July parades, local festivals, farmer’s markets, flea markets and an annual crab feast that is sponsored by the local Rotary Club. It is a town that does not have that big city flavor of other area suburbs, but a quiet, sleepy town that really does not awake each year from its winter slumber until March or April. It is a town where many locals attend their neighborhood haunts in a pair of shorts and flip flops, but it is also a town that can come together to support its local symphony. It is not a town where you would expect to find a specialty gourmet store that carries the best source-able items from all over the world…but it’s true, it’s here and it works…

Victoria’s Fancy Foods opened in March 2008, and has grown yearly to add new items to better serve the community and any well informed world traveler that may live among us. Victoria Stagmer, owner of Victoria’s Fancy Foods, moved to the area 10 years ago and was frustrated at not being able to find many of the gourmet items she would read about or hear about, and so she decided to take on the town and provide them with a gourmet shop all their own.  Her overall business philosophy was to source and sell the best of everything, and these offerings always include local organic produce & bedding plants, pastured & humanely treated Maryland raised meats (including bison, one of the new super foods), poultry, pastured eggs, all natural local ice cream makers, cheese makers and a selection of local, national and international wines that will complement any meal.

It does not hurt that Victoria is a certified wine specialist, and has spent her entire career working in every facet of the food and wine business. She has travelled the world visiting wineries in France, Italy, Spain, Austria and has even gone as far as Australia. This added benefit is a perk for her growing business, and she often consults with her customers to provide the best pairing for the food on their menu.

All of the items at Victoria’s are unique and unusual…and all items are scrutinized in both quality and price. Victoria believes that fairly priced items give customers the opportunity to be able to purchase her unique fare, be it a meal or a gift, for a special occasion or for everyday. Customers can select their items and have them assembled in a beautiful gift basket for any occasion… and any of the items in the store (except alcohol) can be shipped nationwide.

Victoria often samples many of her items during planned events that she has scattered throughout the year.  One of these events is this weekend, so take the time to go, visit and support some of the local vendors…you won’t be disappointed.
