‘Tis The Season For Farmer’s Markets…

After a long and very cold Winter, I am very happy that Spring is not only here but well under way…
Like many other States, Maryland has begun to put into practice many supportive and sustainable ideas that will continue to promote greening strategies throughout our area, long after the catchy monikers fade into history. One way of continuing to support the demands of the public is by offering more direct buy markets (farmer’s markets) which offer fresher, farm to table products. These direct buy farmer’s markets allow you to buy directly from the source, and many markets require that the products are grown or manufactured locally.
Did you know that  purchasing food, goods and services from local business suppliers is not only environmentally friendly, but out of every $100 spent $45 goes right back into your community? Compare this with the same $100 that is spent at a local chain, and only $14 goes back into your community. By buying local, we help maintain the economic health of family owned enterprises and ultimately receive a better quality, nutrient rich product that was recently harvested or manufactured.
Below is the list of all of the Farmer’s Markets in our area. I will be visiting many of them in the coming days and weeks, so stay tuned to find out where to buy the best of anything and everything our community has to offer…or better yet, get out there and support them by visiting the markets yourselves…
