I really love wine based drinks…especially white wine. Yes, I was one of those young maidens who went around drinking wine coolers when they were all the rage…but did they ever really go out of fashion? I must honestly say that starting innocently with wine coolers stirred an interest in learning more about different wines, where they came from and which ones paired well with the food being served. Today’s drink is a cocktail that I recently came across. It sounded so interesting and has such simple ingredients that I had been dying to try it. It is more of a play on a piña colada, but does not have the creaminess from the coconut. It is very delicious nonetheless, and refreshing. I hope that you have an opportunity to try it! And if you are just getting into drinking wines, I will be posting many interesting drinks and cocktails using many different wines as a base. This is what we are serving tonight at my house! Cheers…
Piña Viña
3 oz white wine, sweet (Fetzer’s gewurztraminer is perfect)
1/2 oz lemon juice
1/2 oz pineapple juice
1/2 oz simple syrup
3 oz chunk pineapple
1/2 cup crushed ice
Place all of the ingredients into a blender and mix everything well until you have a frozen ice texture. Pour into a wine glass and serve with a sugared pineapple wedge.
