Friday Night Cocktail: Classic Side Car

Anyone who knows me knows that I enjoy my Friday night cocktails. I’m not one of those people who has the same thing over and over again, I do like to explore new drinks and flavor combinations every now and then. When I saw this advertised in Sante Magazine (where I get many of my cocktail ideas), I thought I would try it. I made it a few times and tried it with Cognac one day and with Armagnac the next… I must say that I enjoyed it more when I used the Armagnac. It imparted a little sweetness  plus it reminded me a little of the Benedictine wine, which I love so much. If it is a little too sharp for you, you can add a touch of honey or simple syrup to round out the flavors…

Classic Side Car  (Recipe from Sante magazine)

8 parts Cognac or Armagnac

2 parts lemon juice

1 part orange liquer

slivered lemon peel

1 teaspoon honey or simple syrup **optional

Add all of the ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a chilled glass and serve with slivered lemon peel or a lemon twist.
