Baltimore Farmers Market

by Caterina Borg, Good Food Gourmet on July 17, 2011

It’s another lazy Sunday morning and you may be thinking of running out to your local farmers market to pick up some yummy baked goods to enjoy for breakfast, but if you have a little more time, I highly recommend that you check out the Baltimore Farmers Market.

This was the second time I had the opportunity to go, and it just seems to get larger every year. This market is truly an exceptional shopping experience in that it has more of a festival atmosphere with throngs of people in attendance every week.

What’s even better is that unlike other markets, prepared food is available so you can nosh as you walk around and do your shopping. There are all kinds of vendors selling all types of food and I’m not even going to try to remember them all but I will mention that there is a fresh omelet and hash brown stall, delicious falafel, crepes, Indian food, Chinese food on a stick, Jamaican curry patties, homemade ice cream, donuts…and oh, did I mention the pit beef station whose billowing puffs of smoke are simply intoxicating…

So what are you waiting for? Pack the family up and head over there…The address is 407 E. Saratoga Street under the JFX Bridge and goes from 7 am-12 noon.

“…fresh omelet and hash brown stall, delicious falafel, crepes, Indian food, Chinese food on a stick, Jamaican curry patties, homemade ice cream, donuts…” so much good food running away in my mind – it’s this that i miss here in hania, where the food is decidedly monocultural, except for a few (and i mean a very few) foregin eateries…

(ps thanks for the very touching comment – i suppose that one day i will try to write something longer than a few pages!)
